Te Awamutu Medical Centre offers an extensive range of general healthcare services, from nurse appointments to minor surgery. 

We regularly have visiting surgeons and specialists available for your particular health issue, and our Casualty clinic is available for accidents and urgent medical issues that cannot wait for the next available GP appointment.

Driving Medicals require a double appointment – please call reception to book these rather than booking via WELL. Service not available to casual patients.

Sexual & women’s health
  • Women’s Health Clinics
  • FREE under 25yrs sexual health, pregnancy testing, contraception advice and prescribing where needed

Our nurses offer a FREE under 25yrs Sexual Health service, for both casual and registered patients: contraception advice and education, STI checks/treatment, GP follow-ups if needed, swabs or smears, pregnancy tests, prescribing where necessary and support.

Dr Mary Ballantyne, Dr Jo Vipond and Michaela Buhrs, midwife and nurse prescriber, are available for consultations on mid-life & menopause, family planning and sexual health, from teens to older age.

Specialist medical services

To provide you with comprehensive medical services, we regularly have visiting specialists on-site. This allows you to access specialist medical attention without the inconvenience and cost of a trip out of town.  Your GP can provide you with referrals and appointments.  In addition to these visiting specialists, other health professionals are also available through Te Awamutu Medical Centre.

General surgery
C.K. Reddy – General Surgeon

General surgery is a branch of surgery that deals with a range of conditions of the abdominal organs, the skin, blood vessels, and the area around the head and neck. They commonly deal with conditions such as varicose veins, appendicitis, and hernias.

They also perform diagnostic tests, such as gastroscopy and colonoscopy.

Orthopaedic

Surgeons G. Cowley and A. Mayer 

Orthopaedic surgeons specialise in diagnosing and treating disorders of the musculoskeletal system, whether due to accidents or degenerative conditions. This includes issues with bones, joints, muscles, cartilage, tendons, and other connective tissues. Orthopaedic surgeons perform procedures such as hip and knee replacements, carpal tunnel surgery, and repairs of broken bones and torn ligaments.

Bulent Yaprak 

A plastic surgeon is a medical doctor who specialises in repairing, reconstructing, or improving the appearance of the body. They work on areas like skin, face, hands, and other parts of the body to fix injuries, birth defects, or damage from surgery or illness. Plastic surgeons also perform cosmetic procedures to enhance appearance, such as facelifts, breast augmentations, or rhinoplasty.

We’re conveniently placed next door to complementary medical services, making it easy for you to access a wider range of health professionals.

Vigour Physiotherapy has six treatment rooms and four physiotherapists on-site to help your recovery, whether following an accident or surgery.

Hamilton Radiology provides X-rays and ultrasounds and can forward your results directly to your GP or specialist.

Unichem Marshalls Pharmacy dispense prescription and over-the-counter medications, provide sports and beauty supplies, and offer general health advice.

Pathlab provide diagnostic medical testing, including blood and urine tests.
